Our story begins with an Old Man lying on his death bed. He is surrounded by family, friends, and doctors; each there to make his inevitable transition that much easier. The Old Man lived a long, fruitful life and had, what some might call, the benefit of knowing that Death was drawing near. This gave the Old Man ample opportunity to ponder all sorts of things such as what their meeting might be like, if they would hug like lovers reuniting after a long absence, or like enemies meeting at opposite ends of a sword. With time came acceptance for the old man. The disease that we call Life had proceeded far past the point of comfort, and the long nights alone brought nothing but the hopeful anticipation of the sweet gift of relief he knew his Old Friend would be delivering soon. Each night, he was certain, would be his last.
