About the Author

Landen and JamesI am a programmer by day, and writer by night. Writing while working a full time job may not be what I consider the most comfortable, but that is the reality of the situation. I’m happily married to a wonderful wife who gets more attractive every day. I have two boys, the oldest is three, the youngest is one. I live and work on an 80 acre plot of land. We run cattle, goats, and a dog kennel. We plant and harvest a large garden every year. I’m a city boy that has grown ever-so attached to the country. I couldn’t imagine a better place to raise my children.

For now, my dream is to work from home, be it writing or programming. And of course, it would be nice to make a couple of bucks while I am at it. My goal, like probably so many other people, is to be my own boss. Maybe writing will get me there, maybe not.

I write because I want to write. I don’t write to make other people happy, and I’m not trying to impress any body with my extensive ability to use a thesaurus. I write what appeals to me, and, then, I run it over with a lawn mower when I edit. I don’t always take the easy path in writing. For example, for my story-in-a-story approach, I could have chosen myself as the narrator. That would have been too easy (and a bit unrealistic). Instead, I decided to let the character telling the story be the narrator. That means a WHOLE BUNCH of DIALOG. As writers, you’ll note that dialog is not the easiest thing to write. So, I don’t just write to have fun and take the easy way out. I write to challenge myself and to grow as a writer. Fortunately, I find challenges and growth fun and rewarding.

I’m looking forward to reading more of your writing as well. And hey, maybe I can learn by example some of your organization methods. 🙂

Nice photos! Dialog is super tough, that is impressive to take on. I look forward to reading more.

Thanks for stopping by! I’ve found it to be challenging and rewarding. It is like writing half my chapters over again.

      • kyrielleadelshine says:

I bet, though that’s probably a great exercise too, for going through your material with a new eye on it now that I think about it. It would force me to think about everything in a new light, which could always be beneficial!

      • vozey says:

It has been very good exercise. I’m doing medieval sounding dialog as well, if I didn’t say that above.

I had a major hang up because I didn’t want to cut all my detail I had added when I originally wrote it to limitations of medieval-sounding dialog. Well, I didn’t really, you would be amazed at what you can accomplish with a thesaurus and an etymology dictionary.

When I have a little more time, I’d love to read some more of your stuff. Don’t know about today that, wife wants to drive posts for her pig pen. I’m swear I think I’m gonna die!

      • kyrielleadelshine says:

        Lol… ;0)

      • kyrielleadelshine says:

Thanks, Btw. I look forward to reading more of yours as well. It’s very different from my style, but sometimes I feel like that can present an even greater learning prompt than solely writing that is similar to mine.

I like your tobasco pic ;0)

  3. You’re shaping a beautiful life with the right values, and that is very pleasing to read about. Good luck with the writing

    • vozey says:

Thank you. It has been coming along great, right now though, pretty sluggish. I’m feeling a little pooped. 200 pages wrote and edited in 3 months. Hopefully, there is a gas station in the middle of the book, because I need to fill up!

      • I know that feeling. My first book is at the publishers and being edited by them, so we will have to see what they think, or I will anyway

      • vozey says:

From what I’ve seen of your writing, I’m sure it is very engaging. What genre/topic?

      • I’m not sure ( that’s promising isn’t it ). I suppose its a sort of star crossed romance with a side order of moral collapse with it .

      • vozey says:

No, the harder it is to describe, the more original. My is Fantasy, but can’t say high or gritty. It explores some darker themes. I’ve tried to add some literary elements to it.

I’ve found often it seems to have elements of mystery, horror, and classical literature.

Do you have any samples of your book?

      • I’ll send you the opening lines:

” I am done with intimacy. The chaos is destructive. No identity is safe from it, at least not mine. Whether I was drowning because my life with Katie had removed me from the familiar or because I existed in a world free of all emotional warmth, and just the promise of a touch made me lose my sanity I cannot say. Perhaps you will be the judge of that.”

That just sets the scene. Lucky man ha ha ha

    • vozey says:

I had to re-read it a few times. The middle sentence should probably read “have/had existed”. I was lost by the this idea, until I saw you were trying to say that he had been in a emotionless world, now was in a very intimate one. The topic and the presentation are excellent. You’ve already given a great source of conflict.

  4. Very good point and thank you 🙂

  5. about the has/had thing I mean ( oops )

  6. Thank you so much for joining us at wePoets, it’s much apprecited and we’d be happy to showcase your writing should you want to share. 🙂

What do you program more exactly? Programs, games, applications? Or something else?

    • vozey says:

      – Professionally, web applications in C# and ASP.Net.
      – For fun, games in C++
      – Tools and applications for my own use.
      – Assembly code hacking (novice, I did some hacks on a game called Diablo)

      • Akira Okihu says:

I know Diablo. I am actually a passionate PC gamer, that’s why I thought you could make an indie game(you could work on the story and programming the mechanics and other things like that) and publish it to *if you don’t mind putting it’s name here* *Desura*

      • vozey says:

I’ve got a game project, but building a game takes a lot of work. My issue is I’m not particularly the best at 2-d art and not fast enough for 3-d art.

      • Akira Okihu says:

Well,if I could draw something more than stick figures and geometrical figures I would’ve helped you. I also have some game projects, but I take it easy. It’s hard to acquire programming knowledge,so for now I am doing Choose your Own Story and Text Adventures, and a little work with RPG Maker. It’s also hard to get a drawer since I learned how to use Ren’Py and would have liked to make a visual novel.

      • vozey says:

I just took up a c++ book, looked around on the internet until I found Simple Direct MediaLayer SDL. Everything else, was pretty much just me without any schooling or training.

      • Akira Okihu says:

The first thing to do: pick up a coding book. Second, find this Simple Direct MeidaLayer SDL. Third: make the game of your dreams! Yeah,a nice part time dream. After all, I also dream to become a known author that can live from writing,so I’ll have to fulfill those two both. Maybe another dream will also come? We’ll see!

      • vozey says:

If I can make any one of those dreams work for me, I could do the others. Just need to get a stay-at-home job with just one of them!

      • vozey says:

Maybe one of these days, I’ll upload some of my game-in-the-making.

      • Akira Okihu says:

It would be fun to play it or test it.

      • vozey says:

I had it to a state where you could kill monster, gain experience, and “Level”

Currently, the project is in pieces.

All of the writing of yours that I’ve seen so far has led me to believe that you are a talented writer, and you mention that you write because you want to write. Not to impress, not to surprise–just to write. That’s the only type of writing worth reading; the stuff that’s written because the author actually WANTS to write. 🙂

  12. subhmohanty says:

You are an inspiration..Hope I can follow my dreams,,one day..

  13. Akira Okihu says:

Vozey, it is now your turn to write in “Manes”. You are the last in the cycle, but that doesn’t mean you also have to end the story. Here is a link to the last part http://therosespen.wordpress.com/2013/10/25/manes-part-5/

  14. Elisabeth says:

Well, you run a pretty good editing lawn mower, based on your critiques of my writing. Thanks, James!

  18. Good morning!
I’m on a bit of a “gratitude journey” this morning and it led me to you. Before you run kicking and screaming away from a crazy stranger, let me quickly say that you were one of the first people to visit my site when I started blogging about a year ago. At that time, I had NO idea what was going on or the etiquette and manners in owning a blog. I think I may have answered one of your comments and then got a bit shy after that…never to be heard from again!
ANYHOO…just wanted to say thank you (way too late) for stopping by my site about a year ago. I’ve learned a lot since then and just wanted properly say thank you.

Enough about me. I love your site! The words, the art, the mission. Hope you don’t mind if I follow and get caught up.

Have a great rest of the day!
    Michelle

Wow! Hello! I wish I could find myself on your blog, but I didn’t have much luck. Any idea which post(s) i commented on?

I think you’re crazy! Reaching out to me a year later! It’s touching really and after months of inactivity on my blog, it makes me want to blog again.

Thanks for stopping by and I hope to hear more from you!
