First, I’d like to give credit to Ionia Martin because she gave me this idea.
I love reading even though I am slow. You know the story of the tortoise and the hare. Well, I can’t say I’ll ever beat the reading hares out there, but I catch some of the finer details. I’m just starting to get back into reading a lot. One of my endeavors is to improve my reading speed. I used to do it a lot more when I was younger. So far, I haven’t found many books that I didn’t at least like a bit. I didn’t like Lord of the Flies or what it stood for. That is probably the worst book I’ve ever read. But even then, it did bring up relevant issues, I just don’t believe people are innate
ly evil. They have some good in them.
But, I’m not going to review that book here. I want to review YOUR books. Books that YOU HAVE WRITTEN. Now, granted, if I get bombarded with requests, I will probably take them in order and it might take me forever and a day before I get to it.
If I absolutely cannot get into your book, I’ll let you know and I probably won’t read anymore. This doesn’t mean that something is wrong with your book, just that it doesn’t appeal to me. I doubt that will happen, but, just in case, I cannot commit to something I don’t want to read. I’m a fan of fiction, but I’ll give anything a try. You can look at my reading list or hit me up on goodreads to see what I like, if you want to. But, honestly, their are whole genres I haven’t tasted, yet.
If I get backed up, I’ll try to get an email out for a time estimate on when I will get to read your work.
I’m writing a book myself, I’ve got kids, a nagging wife, so be courteous, I’m a busy man.
I do give honest feedback. I try to pick out the good with the bad, but I never know how well I do this. Like Ionia, I’m not going to sugar coat it and I expect you to be able to handle constructive criticism. I’ve been know to take a chainsaw to rough drafts, so I encourage that you send me edited material. Sending me your best work is preferred.
I’m not going to place a limit on how many books I can accept a review request on.
One last thing. I’m writing a book and I’ve posted three chapters (I’ve also have these in Word formats). At the time of this post, I’d written 10 chapters. I can and will share more if requested to do so. Why does this matter? Those who are actively reviewing my book have a good chance of getting bumped up the list. (I also can put the whole thing into a kindle format.)
Since I have not yet completed my book, I will accept a work-in-progress. I prefer a completed work, as I would prefer to have my book done and sharable in its entirety, but I’m not there yet, and I know how useful an in-progress review can be.
I’m not a professional editor or anything, but I will offer the following as best as I can:
1. Per chapter, per passage, or per paragraph or any combination thereof critique of
3. Errors in Grammar
4. Commas if I see them, with links to rules possible
5. Whatever I see or feel needs commenting on6. An overall review. I will post this under my review upon request.
1. Formats: Word, PDF, Kindle (though I need to figure out how to get my notes to you….). Printed books are fine, too. But I have my doubts that I’ll get any.
2. Subject line must contain Review Request
3. Must be sent to firstname.lastname@example.org
4. Give me an estimate on the genre.
(5.) Give me an estimate on the length of the book if it is not complete.
